What is feldspar?
Feldspar is one of the most important and widely used minerals in various industries, known as an aluminum silicate containing alkali elements such as potassium, sodium and calcium. This mineral is used as a raw material or a melting aid in many industrial processes due to its special chemical composition, suitable melting point and effective role in reducing the melting temperature. Feldspar is found in nature in white, cream, gray or pink colors and, depending on its composition and type, is placed in different groups such as potassic, sodic and calcic feldspar.
Applications of feldspar in industries
Feldspar is widely used in the ceramic, tile, glass, sanitary ware, glaze and paint industries. In the ceramic and tile industry, this material acts as a flux and reduces the firing temperature, improves mechanical strength and increases the quality of the final surface of the product. In glassmaking, feldspar also helps provide alumina and alkali and plays an important role in improving the transparency, hardness and chemical stability of glass. Due to these properties, feldspar is considered one of the key and valuable raw materials in the production chain of many mineral and non-metallic industries.
