What is dolomite?

Dolomite is one of the most widely used and valuable minerals in various industries. It is composed of calcium and magnesium carbonate and is known by the chemical formula CaMg(CO₃)₂. This mineral is found naturally in rock deposits and, due to the simultaneous presence of calcium and magnesium, has special physical and chemical properties that have made it an important option in many industrial processes. Dolomite is usually white, gray, cream, or yellowish in color and is used in various applications depending on its purity and type of processing.

Dolomite applications in industries

Dolomite is used in various industries as a raw material, a melting aid, or a modifier of chemical and physical properties. This material is widely used in the steel and metallurgical industries, glassmaking, cement production, refractory industries, agriculture, animal husbandry, and water purification. In the steel industry, dolomite is used to adjust the composition of slag and reduce impurities, and in the refractory industry, due to its good heat resistance, it is used in the production of refractory bricks. Dolomite is also used in agriculture to regulate soil acidity and provide calcium and magnesium elements. For this reason, dolomite is considered an important and strategic mineral in the supply chain of many industries.
